Laura is a Senior Solicitor in our Employment Law team.

Laura was admitted to the Bar in 1989 and as Head of our Family Law practice in the early 1990s, she was involved in all aspects of family, relationship and matrimonial matters, regularly instructed by the Inland Revenue Department and the then Department of Social Welfare. Laura left us to travel and work overseas. She has now come full circle and returned home to us.

While in England, Laura was initially involved in extensive care and protection of children litigation. Laura took an opportunity to progress into new areas of law comprising a wide range of commercial, planning, environment and general contract work, while also turning her hand to prosecutions before specialising in construction and regeneration funded project work. While working at a leading construction and engineering law firm in London, Herbert Smith, Laura’s legal construction work focussed on litigation with a wider focus on alternative dispute resolution through adjudication arbitration, and mediation. Laura’s clients included public and private employers, project managers, contractors, subcontractors and a variety of construction professionals.

Since returning to Preston Russell Law, Laura continues her practice in construction and employment.

Laura’s past community involvement includes being volunteer wet crew and Board member of Coastguard Queenstown, Vice Chair of Coastguard Southern Region, Secretary of Fiordland Marine Search and Rescue. She is currently a trustee in the NZ German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue Trust.

Laura’s legal work has been of an extremely high quality, she has also been very quick to understand areas in which she has had no previous experience. She has established exceptionally good relationships with clients who, without exception, speak very highly of her.”
